The Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, Michael Gove MP, unexpectedly added his support to the campaign to save Sheffield’s street trees. He sent a critical letter to Council Leader Julie Dore, in which he requested that SCC listen to the wishes of Sheffield’s people and put an end to the tree felling programme.
See the full letter published on the Yorkshire Post website.

Councilor Bryan Lodge issued an official response to Gove’s letter via the Council’s newsroom, in which he refutes the facts presented in the original letter.

STAG prepared a reaction to Lodge’s letter, analysing his statements in great detail, and then sent it to Gove for clarification purposes. Unsurprisingly there was much disagreement with the way the Council has presented the facts in the official version of events.
